Story…

I think there is a difference between fine art and art. I think everyone is a capable artist. To me, creating art is about expressing your individual experiences and perspectives in a visual way. Creating art is about communicating our personal stories. The uniqueness of our energy, perception, emotions and process comes together to create true and beautiful art. This concept differs from, and I would argue is better than, "fine" art, as fine art is the mastery of a particular skill that can be replicated at high levels.

Sure, we can all study the greats and copy their skills, but a person's individual energy, emotion, perception, lines, marks, and interpretations of their stories and surroundings are far more interesting to me. The uniqueness of our individual motions and movement as we drag a paintbrush or pencil across a surface. The way we move our hands to our internal rhythm breathes life into the canvas.

To me, art is about the individual, though the process of creating is social and requires community and collaboration to grow our abilities. We are all capable of creating art. So, I encourage you to grab a brush, paints, or even some crayons and begin telling your story. The world needs to see it, trust me.

Sincerely,

Craig
